Cupra Formentor styling
Taking inspiration from the wild cape on the Spanish island of Mallorca, the Formentor’s exterior design embodies a high-performance crossover.
With a coupe-esque touch, Formentor measures 4,450mm long and 1,511mm tall making it marginally longer and lower than the Cupra Ateca. In combination with the two-tone body, this helps lend it a more sporty appearance too.
At the rear, the integration of coast-to-coast lighting also creates a visual width to the vehicle which is something that has also been exploited on the upcoming Seat Leon.
19in alloy wheels – available in Copper finish – which house 18in performance Brembo brakes finish its sporty aesthetic.
Cupra Formentor interior
The high-quality interior further emphasises the Formentor’s sense of modernity and sportiness. Brushed dark aluminium and copper accents make the cabin feel contemporary, while bucket seats are mounted low in the cabin to maximise space, allow a more ergonomic seating position and give a sense of the dynamic performance available.
A flat-bottomed steering wheel houses the engine start and Cupra driving mode buttons, as well as gearbox shift paddles.
The dashboard features horizontal full-LED wraparound ambient lighting. Running the full width into the front doors, it is not only aesthetically pleasing but also flashes yellow when Blind Spot Detection or Exit Assist are activated.
Cupra Formentor infotainment
The centrepiece of the dashboard is the 12in touchscreen which provides functionality and connectivity to all occupants, while the driver also benefits from a fully-customisable digital cockpit.
The touchscreen also integrates voice and gesture control and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay (wireless) and Android Auto (wired).
An embedded SIM card also brings online services directly into the vehicle via Cupra Connect, allowing customers to access downloadable apps, online radio and remote access to vehicle data.
Cupra Formentor engines and performance
The Cupra Formentor will be available with five engines: The range-topping high-performance powertrain is a 310hp 4WD mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.
There’s also a 1.5-litre petrol that produces 150hp, a 2.0-litre petrol producing 190hp as well two hybrids. They both use a 1.4-litre petrol engine and produce either 204hp or 245hp.
The ultimate expression of Cupra’s performance will be the 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which produces 310hp and 400Nm of torque. 4Drive technology constantly monitors steering angle and wheel speed to deliver power and give a sense of confidence behind the wheel.
Four driver profiles will feature – Comfort, Sport, Cupra and Individual – while an intelligent Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system underpins the coupe crossover’s performance to deliver the most engaging drive.
Cupra Formentor trim levels
The Formentor will eventually be available in six distinct trim levels: V1, V2, VZ1, VZ2, VZ3 and VZ Edition.
The entry-level V1 gets 19in alloy wheels, 12in infotainment touchscreen with connected navigation, a 10in driver display, LED headlights, automatic wipers, Adaptive Cruise Control, a wireless charger and rear parking sensors.
The V2 includes a sportier set of 19in wheels, leather dashboard and door insert trim, heated steering wheel, park assist and a rear view camera.
Opt for the VZ1 and you’ll add contrasting 19in alloy wheels, black bucket seats, a rear diffuser, dynamic chassis control, sports suspension and front parking sensors.
VZ2 models get electrically adjustable leather seats, a multi-function sports steering wheel, a safety and driving pack. VZ3 models get Brembo brakes, copper/black alloys, while plumping for the range-topping Formentor VZ Edition will add a panoramic sunroof.
Cupra Formentor safety
A range of driver assistance and safety systems aims to make the Cupra Formentor one of the most relaxing and safest vehicles on the road. Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control uses the car’s forward-facing camera, traffic sign recognition and GPS data to proactively adjust the cruise control speed based on speed limit changes, junctions, roundabouts and corners.
