BMW M5 super-saloon to offer 625hp
Hot on the heels of Mercedes revealing the E 63, BMW has fired back with details of the M5 performance saloon.
A variety of exterior changes have been made to the M5, with the kidney grille featured on the BMW 5 Series receiving a more upright appearance which drops down further into the front apron. New air intakes as well as redesigned LED headlights also feature. The rear also features restyled LED lighting as well as a large diffuser.
Chassis revisions have also been made, with new shock absorbers improving ride comfort and reducing driver body movement.
Of course, the real detail is in the performance. Only the M5 Competition model will be available in the UK, with this top of the range model offering a high-revving 4.4-litre V8 turbocharged engine with outputs of 625hp and 750Nm of torque. This leads to a 0-62 of just 3.3 seconds.
The interior reflects the BMW 5 Series, albeit with a larger 12.3in infotainment unit. This features BMW’s iDrive system and includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.
Two new buttons have been included in the centre console which allows drivers to switch between Road and Track modes: these offer fully operational safety systems and individual setup respectively.
The BMW M5 Competition will be priced from £98,095.
