Following HMRC’s u-turn on its double-cab pick-up tax hike, we thought we’d take a look at the best practical pick-ups that are available to lease right now.

It’s officially been confirmed that double-cab pick-ups will not be treated as passenger vehicles, meaning they will continue to benefit from their historic tax classification of a commercial vehicle.

That makes all of the below a practical proposition for both business and personal customers. Which one would you pick?

1. Ford Ranger

Stylistically and performance-wise, the Ford Ranger has long been a go-to favourite in the pick-up world, particularly in double-cab form. With an innumerable number of engine options available, it gets the same tech you’ll find in some of Ford’s most premium passenger cars.

The difference? The Ranger will happily haul heavy loads and tack a variety of off-road obstacles. The Raptor is a stunning vehicle, but a 2.0-lire EcoBlue diesel model should offer enough power for most requirements. Check out deals by hitting the button below.

2. Volkswagen Amarok

Volkswagen Amorak

Renowned for its premium build quality and sophisticated design, the Volkswagen Amarok stands out as a premium pick-up. The double-cab model boasts a spacious layout and impressive infotainment, giving business users a perfect blend of comfort and off-road capability.

Whether you're navigating city streets or venturing into rugged terrain, the Amarok offers a refined driving experience thanks to its premium cabin.

3. Toyota Hilux

Toyota Hilux

As a symbol of durability and reliability, the Toyota Hilux has earned its reputation as true workhorse. Featuring dependable technology and capable of some serious off-road work, the Hilux can handle the toughest challenges with ease.

The latest models are equipped with a raft of innovative safety features too, while the spacious double-cab pick-up  is best in range-topping GR Sport form. This model also adds an enhanced suspension which improves the ride compared with other versions, too.

4. Isuzu D-Max

Where some manufacturers have tried to make their pick-ups more like a car, the Isuzu D-Max sticks out. It might not have the tech some rivals offer, but this is a true out-and-out mud-plugger.

If you’re a business user after a capable workhorse at a great price, then the robust D-Max is arguably the best pick-up for you.

5. Maxus T90

As a newcomer to the pick-up truck market, the Maxus T90 offers something a little different. It’s also the only vehicle on this list that’s an all-electric vehicle.

Featuring an 88kWh battery pack, the Maxus T90 is the only electric pick-up currently available in the UK. But its drivetrain doesn’t mean it isn’t practical; ok, its 200-mile range will be a limiting factor for some, but even in double-cab form its payload is 1,000kg.
